A Sunday in Uganda

Hi, it’s Chloe!

Jennie and I cannot wait for you to listen to the episode that came out today. It is deeply personal to me, and I can’t wait for you to feel, for just a few moments, like you are standing in a village about 30 minutes outside of Gulu, Uganda with me, seeing what I see and hearing what I hear.

This is where we would start, at this exact church on the morning of Sunday, April 16th.

If you were there with me, you would hear the squealing of children jumping rope and throwing balls of scrap paper, the wind in the waist-high grass, and maybe you would smell the sweet smell of burning brush. I wanted you to feel like you were with me in this episode when I listened quietly to four women share their stories of being abducted as children by rebel armies and taken against their will into the bush. They would show us where the bullet wounds had left scars beneath their hair and on their legs. And maybe you would cry with me too because their stories feel like a gift they’ve given us so that the rest of the world can know that because of God, they can keep living.

And Pastor Geoffrey would ask your name and tell you how welcome you are at this small cinderblock church in Northern Uganda.

And maybe like me, you would wonder how one place can carry devastation and beauty all at once.

Only God.

These four women. Our friends. They stood up in church that Sunday morning and said they wanted you to know the life-changing impact of Compassion International in their community. Through their own pastors and church family, Prisca, Elijah, and every child will hear that God loves them and they have hope because of Jesus. They will have full bellies and learn to read and medical care. They are loved and valued and seen.

When you join Jennie and me in sponsoring a child through Compassion, we get to play a small part in God’s story.

I’m praying that this time next year every single child in these churches we met would have someone like you!

Will you do this with me?
